Personal profile

Overview

Sibylla joined the faculty of the Conservation of Wall Painting Department in January 2015, having supervised major Departmental field programmes during the previous decade and held a part-time appointment as visiting lecturer. As well as lecturing on the Courtauld MA, Sibylla supervises dissertations and fieldwork (currently in Bhutan, Georgia and India) and has served on the Department’s International Advisory Board since 2011.

Following an MA in History of Art at Edinburgh University (2000), she received her Courtauld MA in Conservation of Wall Painting (2004), and took up a Graduate Internship in Field Projects at the Getty Conservation Institute (2004-05). She then co-supervised long-term conservation programmes at Nagaur (India) and Valletta (Malta). Further supervision and lecturing for the Department included Dunhuang (China), Lampadistis (Cyprus), and the Leon Levy Conservation Centre at Nagaur.

Sibylla is in the final stages of completing her PhD in Conservation on Assessing methods for visualising consolidants in painted lime plaster. This research investigates field and laboratory methods for determining the distribution of organic and inorganic consolidants in painted lime plaster.
